Ross has more than 35 years experience in the exploration and mining industry in numerous commodities and countries. He worked as an exploration and mining geologist in Western Australia before starting work with Surpac Software in their UK and Canadian offices. He went on to join a number of well known Australian mining companies specialising in database management, resource estimation and mining geology. Since 2015, he has been consulting through his own company called GEOWiZ based in Sydney, Australia.

Selected Experience

Consulting

Ross has worked for Snowden Associates in Sydney as well as running his own consulting business where he developed numerous mining databases including a complete open pit and underground production management system that he installed at three significant operating mines. He also developed his own resource estimation database system that interfaces with Surpac’s resource modeling tools.

Resource Evaluations and Mine Geology

Ross has been the Competent Person for a number of Australian mining companies where he was responsible for the resource drill outs, data management and resource estimations. He has also been involved in setting up grade control systems using Surpac and he has developed a large library of Surpac macros and Access databases for mining.

Software

Ross has been using Surpac since 1988 when he was the Mine Geologist at the Peak Hill Gold Mine in WA. He setup and ran the UK office For the Surpac Software International Group and then moved to the Canadian office where he provided training, support and consulting services. He has written numerous stand-alone TCL scripting macros that interface directly with Access databases.

Ross has been using Leapfrog for over 10 years and is an experienced GIS software user. He has a computer programming degree and is proficient in a number of programming languages including Python which he regularly uses for analysis of exploration and resource data.

  • Over 25 years of experience using Surpac for exploration, geological modelling, resource estimation and mining.
  • Developed a number of sophisticated grade control systems using Surpac and Access.
  • Customised trainer in Microsoft Access.
  • Developed Access databases for exploration, mining and processing that are still being used on numerous mine sites.
  • Over 10 years using Leapfrog.
  • B.Sc. In Geology and Post-graduate Computer Programming degree.
  • Proficient in Fortran, tcl, kml, PHP, Javascript, Visual Basic and Python.

Commodities and Projects

Ross has worked in a large number of commodities and projects in Australia and around the world. For 4 years prior to starting GEOWiZ, he was the Mineral Resource Manager for a company developing porphyry copper projects in Chile and Peru. Prior to that, he spent two years in Spain working as the Chief Geologist on the Salamanca Uranium Project following six years in China as the Technical Services Manager for Sino Gold working at the Jinfeng and White Mountain Gold Mines. He has extensive experience in gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, uranium and has worked on consulting projects involving coal, mineral sands and nickel.
